1899 - The Year of the Great Mistake

Welcome to 1899, the year that will forever be known as the “year of the great mistake”. This was the year that humanity peaked in stupidity, and we’ve been trying to top it ever since.

It all started with the Y2K bug scare, you know, the one where everyone thought computers were going to kill us all because they couldn’t handle the transition from 1999 to 2000. Well, in 1899, people were worried about the same thing. They feared that when the clock struck midnight on December 31st, the world would come to an end.

But the real mistake was made by a group of scientists who thought they could save the world. They decided to reset the clocks to December 31st, 1898, effectively giving humanity a do-over.

Now, you might think that sounds like a great idea. Who wouldn’t want a second chance at life? But here’s the catch: nobody remembered anything that happened in 1899. All the knowledge, all the discoveries, all the progress made throughout the year was lost.

On the upside, people got to experience all the major events of 1899 again. The Klondike Gold Rush? Exciting! The second Boer War? Thrilling! But imagine waking up on January 1st, 1900, with absolutely no recollection of the previous year. That’s what happened to everyone.

It’s like hitting the reset button on your life, except you don’t get to keep any of the knowledge or experience you gained before the reset. We can only imagine how frustrating it must have been for the people who made real progress in 1899, only to have it all wiped out.

But hey, at least we can learn from their mistake. Don’t mess with time, folks. It never ends well. And if you must hit the reset button, make sure you back up your data first.
