Borisav Jović: The Master of Self-Denial

Borisav Jović was a Serbian politician and one of the key players in the politics of Yugoslavia. He was born on October 19th, 1928, in the town of Bugojno, Bosnia and Herzegovina. With decades of experience in politics, Jović eventually became the President of the Presidency of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1991.

Jović’s greatest talent was his ability to deny and lie to himself about the harsh realities of his country. He was a master of self-deception, believing Yugoslavia was still a united country even when it was already disintegrating. He was so convinced of his delusions that he was even able to convince the late Yugoslavian president, Josip Broz Tito, that he was the true heir to Tito’s throne.

Jović was also known for his love of smoke-filled rooms and his propensity for making deals behind closed doors. While the world watched in disbelief as Yugoslavia broke apart, Jović sat cunningly plotting in secret, happily winking and nodding to his comrades who shared his delusions.

When the bloody wars broke out in the Balkans, Jović continued to insist that everything was fine and that the people were “simply passionate about their differences.” As the violence escalated, Jović simply shrugged it off, claiming that “there’s nothing we can do” and that Yugoslavia was “strong enough to withstand any challenge.”

In the end, Jović’s self-denial proved too much for even him to bear. With Yugoslavia crumbling around him, Jović finally admitted to himself that he had been living in a fantasy world. His only regret was that his dreams of a united Yugoslavia were dashed, and that he would never again have the opportunity to cheat, lie, and deceive himself once more.

Borisav Jović may have been a master of self-denial, but his legacy will always remain as one of the most delusional and stubborn politicians in the history of Yugoslavia.
