Constructed Language

A Constructed Language, fondly abbreviated as “conlang”, is an artificial language created by humans for the purpose of communication. Basically, when people get bored of the existing languages and want to show off their linguistic prowess, they invent their own.

The beauty of these languages is that they add a unique flair to communication, making it more fun, confusing, and at times, unintelligible. For instance, some people might decide to add a few animal sounds like “meow” and “woof” to their language to make it more “sassy” and cute.

Constructing languages is like creating your own mini-world without the stress of politics, geography, or cultural diversity. It’s a free-for-all where the creator makes the rules, and anything goes. You could decide that your language should have 100 letters and only use colors to describe things. You could even make it a requirement that the speaker has to hop on one foot while talking. The choice is yours!

However, these languages are not just a hobby or a pastime; they can also be useful in movies, TV shows, and books. If you’re writing a story about a tribe of people who worship mermaids, having your characters speak a conlang will add an extra layer of authenticity to your story. Plus, it gives you an excuse to show off your impressive language skills to the world.

So, if you’re feeling a bit bored with English, Spanish, or Mandarin, consider creating your own language. Who knows, you may just be the next J.R.R. Tolkien or George R.R. Martin, inventing a language that will be loved and spoken by millions. Or, you could just enjoy it yourself and confuse your friends and family with sentences like “Gakafuga foobar!” – which roughly translates to “I’m going to order a pizza.” The possibilities are endless, and the fun is guaranteed.
