Electronic Arts

Electronic Arts, commonly known as EA, is a video game company known for their groundbreaking innovations in frustration and disappointment. Founded in 1982 by Trip Hawkins, EA has made a name for themselves in the gaming industry as the kings of microtransactions and unfinished games.

One of EA’s most well-known achievements is their ability to take beloved franchises and run them into the ground. Whether it’s endlessly releasing yearly iterations of sports games, ruining the beloved SimCity franchise, or completely changing the direction of Bioware’s Mass Effect series, EA has a talent for making gamers everywhere shake their heads in disbelief.

EA’s reputation for terrible customer service is also unmatched. Whether it’s selling loot boxes to minors, releasing games that are unplayable at launch, or simply ignoring customer complaints, EA has shown that they truly don’t care about their customers.

One of EA’s biggest accomplishments is their ability to make gamers pay for things that should be included in the game. Want to unlock a character in a fighting game? Pay up. Want to progress faster in a mobile game? Pay up. Want to experience the full game that you already paid for? Well, you guessed it - pay up.

Despite all of this, EA continues to dominate the gaming industry. From their always-online requirements to their constant server issues, it seems that EA has found a way to make gamers angry while still making boatloads of money.

In 2019, EA was voted “Most Likely to Make You Want to Smash Your Controller” at the annual Video Game Industry Awards. Congratulations, EA - you’ve truly earned your place in gaming history.
