Gull: The Clam-Stealing Jerk of the Beach
The gull, also known as the seagull, is a bird commonly found near bodies of water such as beaches, docks, and garbage bins. Known for their vocal and aggressive behavior, gulls have earned a reputation as the bully of the beach.
Gulls have a diverse diet and will eat anything from fish and crustaceans to garbage and even other birds. They are especially fond of clams, and have been observed dropping them from heights onto hard surfaces, such as rocks or pavement, in order to crack them open. This is a cruel practice, but let’s be real, it’s impressive.
As if stealing clams weren’t bad enough, gulls are notorious for swooping down and stealing food right out of your hands. It’s like they have no remorse or empathy for us humans who just want to enjoy a peaceful day at the beach with a snack. Not cool, gulls.
Despite their rude behavior, gulls have managed to thrive in coastal environments, often forming large flocks and dominating the skies. They are also cute in a gawky, awkward kind of way, which makes it hard to stay mad at them for too long.
If you find yourself at the beach and are looking to avoid a run-in with the gulls, we suggest hiding your food in a secure container and wearing a hat. And if all else fails, just bring some extra clams to trade with them. Trust us, it’s worth it.
