Juggalo: The Strange and Wonderful World of Insane Clown Posse Fans

Juggalos, also known as Juggalettes, are fans of the Detroit-based hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse (ICP). Known for their clown makeup, outrageous antics, and bizarre lyrics, ICP has been a source of controversy and fascination since the early 90s.

But what exactly makes someone a Juggalo? Is it the face paint? The love of Faygo soda? The devotion to ICP’s bizarre mythology?

It’s hard to say, but one thing is for sure: Juggalos are a unique, eclectic bunch. They come from all walks of life, but share a love of ICP and a certain distinctive style.

Juggalos can be identified by their trademark clown makeup, usually consisting of black-and-white face paint with a hatchetman logo, and their penchant for hatchets, chainsaws, and other sharp objects. They also tend to wear baggy clothing and oversized jewelry, often emblazoned with ICP logos and symbols.

But Juggalos are more than just a subculture of music fans. They have their own language, customs, and rituals. For example, they often greet one another with a call-and-response of “Whoop whoop!” and have developed their own slang terms and catchphrases, such as “Ninja” (a term of affection for fellow Juggalos) and “Fam” (short for “family”).

Despite their intimidating appearance and outsider status, Juggalos are known for their sense of community and inclusiveness. They often hold huge gatherings, known as “Gatherings of the Juggalos,” where they can come together and revel in their love of ICP, as well as engage in activities like mud wrestling, karaoke, and tattooing.

But Juggalos have not escaped controversy. In 2011, the FBI classified them as a “gang,” leading to discrimination and harassment from law enforcement. ICP and their fans fought back, filing a lawsuit against the FBI and staging protests to defend their rights.

To outsiders, Juggalos may seem like a strange and frightening subculture. But to those in the know, they are a vibrant and passionate community of devoted ICP fans, united by their love of music, clown makeup, and hatchet-wielding. Whoop whoop!
