Leap year 🐸
Leap year is the name given to every fourth year that has an extra day in February, making it a total of 366 days.
According to popular belief, leap years are designed to make up for the fact that the earth actually takes 365 ¼ days to complete one orbit around the sun. But let’s be real, we all know that the real reason for a leap year is so that people born on February 29th can finally celebrate their birthday like the rest of us.
The tradition of leap year dates back to ancient times when it was believed that leap years held mystical properties. It was thought that on this magical extra day, anything was possible. People would leap over fires and dance around in circles to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck.
But for most of us, leap year is just another excuse to put off things we don’t want to do for an extra day. Need to file your taxes? Sorry, it’s a leap year. Have a dentist appointment? Just wait until next year, it’s a leap year.
In some cultures, there are even superstitions surrounding leap year marriage proposals. According to Irish tradition, women are allowed to propose to men on February 29th. But be warned, if the man refuses, he must buy her 12 pairs of gloves to hide the shame of her bare ring finger.
So embrace the leap year, it’s a time for weird traditions, extra celebrations, and of course, putting off responsibilities for just a little bit longer. Just remember, the next leap year is only four years away… better start planning now. 🎉🐸
