Liberia

Liberia is a country located on the west coast of Africa. It is known for its beautiful coastline, vibrant culture, and rap music.

History

Liberia was founded in 1822 by the American Colonization Society, a group of people who believed in sending freed African-American slaves back to Africa. Ironically, the founding fathers of Liberia were former slaves themselves, so it was kind of like sending your ex to live in your old apartment.

Culture

Liberia is a country full of colorful traditions and customs. One of the most popular is the “puppy ceremony,” in which a live puppy is sacrificed to protect a newborn baby from evil spirits. Talk about puppy love!

Liberians also love their music, especially rap. In fact, the most famous rapper from Liberia is a guy named “Scientific”, who raps about everything from love to politics. He even has a song about his country’s national dish, “jollof rice.” Can you imagine a rapper called “MC Meatloaf” in America?

Politics

Liberia has had its fair share of political ups and downs. The country’s last civil war ended in 2003 with the help of UN peacekeeping forces. Since then, Liberia has had two female presidents. It seems like Liberia is leading the way in women’s rights and feminism, but they still have a long way to go, considering their favorite way to protect babies is sacrificing puppies.

Geography

Liberia is a mostly tropical country with a coastline that stretches over 350 miles. You can find beautiful beaches, lagoons, and mangrove swamps along the coast. Liberia’s interior is full of dense forests and wildlife, including chimpanzees, elephants, and pygmy hippos. The pygmy hippos are small and cute, but don’t let that fool you; they can be as aggressive as your average toddler at a toy store.

Tourism

Liberia is not exactly a tourist hot spot, but it has a lot to offer for adventurous travelers. You can hike through the lush forests, go bird-watching, and even surf along the beautiful coast. Just make sure you avoid any ceremonies involving live puppies.
