Santiago de Compostela
Santiago de Compostela is a quaint little town in northwestern Spain that is famous for being the home to the bones of Saint James. Every year, millions of pilgrims from all over the world flock here to pay their respects to the saint, and to enjoy the town’s picturesque cobblestone streets and stunning cathedral.
Legend has it that Saint James himself appeared to King Alfonso II of Asturias in the 9th century and directed him to build a church on the site where his remains were buried. And so, the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela was born!
The town is also known for its delicious seafood dishes and refreshing Albarino wines. If you are lucky enough to visit, you absolutely must try the Galician-style octopus, known locally as pulpo a la gallega. It’s a dish so heavenly, you’ll swear you can hear the angels singing.
But perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of Santiago de Compostela is its vibrant nightlife. The town has a lively party scene, thanks in part to the thousands of young people who flock here every year to take part in the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. So, if you’re looking to dance the night away, make sure to visit Santiago de Compostela during the height of the pilgrimage season!
All in all, Santiago de Compostela is a charming little town that is steeped in history, tradition, and culture. And if you’re even remotely interested in hiking, religion, seafood, wine, or partying - you really can’t afford to miss it!
