Sarcophilus harrisii
Sarcophilus harrisii is a species of carnivorous marsupial commonly known as the Tasmanian devil. These little devils are notorious for their aggressive behavior, foul temper, and insatiable appetite.
Physically, Tasmanian devils are stocky and muscular, with a coat of black fur and a distinctive white patch on their chest. They have a powerful jaw and sharp teeth that they use to crush through the bones of their prey.
Despite their ferocious demeanor, Sarcophilus harrisii is actually a very shy and introverted species. They tend to keep to themselves and avoid social situations, which is probably why they’re such big fans of solitude and binge-watching TV shows.
As previously mentioned, Tasmanian devils are ravenous eaters, and will consume just about anything they can get their paws on. From small mammals to birds and even insects, nothing is off-limits. They’ve been known to eat entire carcasses, bones and all, and have been described as “the ultimate garbage disposals”.
However, their love of food has inevitably led to a few weight problems. Many Tasmanian devils struggle with obesity, and you’ll often find them huffing and puffing after a particularly big meal.
Despite their reputation as grumpy loners, Tasmanian devils do have one redeeming quality: their yawns. Unlike other animals, their yawns are infectiously cute and have been known to brighten even the gloomiest of days.
While they may not be the most social or cuddly creatures, Sarcophilus harrisii certainly has a distinctive personality that’s impossible to ignore. So the next time you find yourself in Tasmania, keep an eye out for these little devils - you never know what kind of mischief they might be up to.
