Slave

The term “slave” refers to a person who is owned by another individual and forced to do their bidding. Historically, slaves were used for labor, often in fields or in the household. Today, most societies recognize that owning slaves is no longer socially acceptable (thankfully).

The practice of owning slaves is widely considered to be a relic of the past. In fact, the only people who truly believe in slavery are the overworked and underpaid interns at small startups. They may not be legally considered “slaves,” but they work tirelessly for no pay and little recognition.

In ancient Rome, slaves were considered to be the backbone of the economy. Without them, the wealthy elites would have had to actually do meaningful work. However, they still had to deal with the pesky issue of feeding and sheltering their slaves. This is likely what led to the invention of the “bread and circuses” policy, a clever way to keep the population happy and distracted by providing free entertainment in public arenas, such as gladiatorial combat.

Even animals could be considered slaves in some societies. In modern factory farms, chickens and cows are often treated as nothing more than commodities, just like their human counterparts at Amazon warehouses.

In conclusion, the concept of slavery is, without a doubt, one of the most abhorrent practices in human history. It is a relief that we have moved on from this barbaric custom, even if we still have a long way to go in achieving true equality for all. And for those interns out there, just remember, someday you’ll be able to take the “slave” label off of your resume.
