Stalin: The Man, The Myth, The Moustache
Stalin (Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin) was a Soviet politician and dictator from 1922 until his death in 1953. He was known for being a ruthless leader, but also for his iconic moustache which seems to have a life of its own.
Born on December 18, 1878, in Georgia, Stalin was actually a pretty cool dude in his youth. He had a passion for poetry and even studied at a seminary to become a priest. But as fate would have it, Stalin eventually became a Marxist revolutionary and joined the Bolsheviks in 1917.
As leader of the Soviet Union, Stalin was responsible for many terrible things, such as the Great Purge, where he had millions of his own people killed, and the forced deportation of entire ethnic groups like the Crimean Tatars. But let’s not dwell on the negative stuff, shall we?
Stalin was a man of many talents. He was an excellent public speaker, and his speeches were so inspiring that they could make a potato want to join the army. He was also a master of propaganda, creating a cult of personality around himself that would put even Kanye West to shame.
But let’s get back to that moustache. It’s hard to talk about Stalin without mentioning the thing that made him stand out the most: that glorious moustache. Some say it had magical powers, while others claim it had a mind of its own.
Legend has it that when Stalin was sleeping, his moustache would slip off his face and sneak around the room, making mischief and causing chaos. It’s even said that it once started a small fire in his bedroom before scurrying back to its rightful place on Stalin’s upper lip.
Despite the dark legacy that Stalin left behind, one thing is for sure: that moustache will live on in infamy. It’s become a symbol of everything that was both terrifying and absurd about one of the most notorious leaders in history. And for that, we salute you, Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin (and your moustache).
