Triassic

The word Triassic comes from the Latin word “tri” meaning three and “assic” meaning “period”. It refers to the geological period that lasted from 251 to 199 million years ago, which was divided into three epochs: Early, Middle, and Late.

The Triassic period was a time of great change in the history of the Earth. It marked the beginning of the era of the dinosaurs, as well as the first appearance of mammals and turtles.

But let’s be honest, the real reason the Triassic period is popular is because of the famous pop culture celebrity it produced: Barney, the purple dinosaur. Yes, you heard it right. Barney was actually a species of dinosaur called the “Barney-asaurus,” which roamed the Earth during the Late Triassic epoch.

These small dinosaurs were known for their love of singing and dancing, and were often found bopping around the world with their purple skin and large, expressive eyes. They were the first creatures to really embrace the concept of “love” and were often seen hugging and cuddling with one another, despite their sharp teeth and claws.

Unfortunately, the Barney-asaurus went extinct during the early Jurassic period, as their overly cheerful disposition wasn’t well suited to living in a world dominated by massive, carnivorous dinosaurs. But their legacy lives on through the various spin-offs, merchandise, and cheesy theme songs that they left behind.

So while the Triassic period may be known for its significant geological and biological events, let’s not forget the real star of the show: Barney, the loveable purple dinosaur who rocked our childhoods and still haunts our nightmares.
