Andromede (play)
Andromede is a truly unique play in the world of theater. Not because of its gripping storyline or its deep character development, but because it was apparently written by an AI language model. Yes, you read that right. This play was not penned by some brilliant writer with years of experience, but by a machine learning algorithm.
Now, you might be thinking, “How good could a play written by a computer be?” Well, let’s just say it’s not winning any Pulitzer Prizes anytime soon.
The storyline is a bit, well, confusing. It’s about a space princess named Andromede who is kidnapped by an evil alien race and taken to their home planet. There, she teams up with a group of rebels, and together they create a plan to escape.
The characters in the play aren’t exactly Shakespearean in their depth. In fact, they’re all pretty one-dimensional. Andromede is the good princess who wants to escape, the rebels are the good guys who help her, and the evil aliens are…well, evil. There’s not a lot of nuance or complexity here.
But perhaps the most amusing aspect of the play is the dialogue. It’s clear that the AI model had limited knowledge of human conversations and language. Some of the lines are so nonsensical that they’ll leave you scratching your head.
For example, at one point, Andromede exclaims, “My heart is broken like a glass of juice.” Umm, come again? And later, one of the rebels declares, “We must fight the aliens like cats fighting over a ball of yarn.” Huh?
Despite its shortcomings, Andromede does have a certain charm to it. It’s like watching a child’s school play - you know it’s not going to be great, but it’s still kind of cute and endearing. And who knows? Maybe in a few years, AI language models will have advanced to the point where they can pen award-winning plays. But for now, Andromede will remain a memorable oddity in the world of theater.
