Appendicitis
Appendicitis is a medical condition that affects the appendix, a small, useless organ located in the lower right side of the abdomen. Its function is still unknown, but doctors speculate that it exists solely to cause trouble.
Symptoms of appendicitis include sharp pain in the belly button area that gradually moves to the lower right side of the abdomen. Other tell-tale signs are nausea, vomiting, and feverishness. Misdiagnosis is also common, as more than once a patient has mistaken their appendicitis as a hangover or the flu.
But don’t worry, appendicitis is not all doom and gloom— it can be quite humorous, in a twisted way. For starters, the appendix is often likened to a useless appendage, much like how your ex-boyfriend is a useless appendage to your life. And this seemingly harmless organ can cause widespread panic, as evidenced by the infamous episode of “Friends” where Chandler takes off to Yemen instead of getting his appendix removed.
And let us not forget the medical professionals, who have the privilege of performing the appendectomy surgery. One can only imagine the stress that comes with holding someone’s life in your hands, with the added pressure of not dropping the appendix on the operating room floor. I bet no one claps when the appendix is finally removed too, unlike in happy moments of other surgeries.
In conclusion, nobody knows why we have an appendix but one can only hope that in some alternate world, the appendix has a purpose other than causing extreme discomfort. Until then, let us keep the good humor flowing and make fun of our useless, troublesome appendix, because if we don’t laugh, we might just cry.
