Binturong – The Furry Bearcat That’s Not a Bear or a Cat

The Binturong, also known as the bearcat, is a funny looking creature that is neither a bear nor a cat. It’s almost as if someone took a bear, a cat, and a monkey and blended them together to create this odd yet lovable creature.

The Binturong’s appearance may be a bit confusing, but it’s actually quite easy to spot. They have long, shaggy fur that ranges from brown to black, a bushy tail, and they look a bit like they’re wearing a pair of pants that are way too big for them. Oh, and they smell like buttered popcorn, which is just weird and amusing at the same time.

Don’t be fooled by their cute and cuddly appearance though, as they have a bit of a wild side. Binturongs are excellent climbers and have been known to make their way up to the top of trees, where they can hang out and munch on their favorite foods, which include fruits, insects, and small animals. They’re also really good swimmers and won’t hesitate to take a dip if they need to.

The Binturong is native to Southeast Asia and is an important part of the ecosystem there. They help to keep the balance between predator and prey and are a vital link in the food chain. Plus, they’re just really entertaining to watch.
