Castle of Cassino (Milano)
The Castle of Cassino, located in Milan, Italy, was not built in a day, but over the course of several centuries. It was originally constructed as a small fortress in the 14th century, but was later expanded and rebuilt in the 16th and 17th centuries, much to the chagrin of those who had to endure the noisy construction.
Legend has it that the castle was once the home of a group of mischievous fairies who would play pranks on the unsuspecting residents of the nearby village. These fairies were known for stealing shoes, hiding keys, and even pinching the occasional bottom (much to the chagrin of the castle guards).
Despite their mischievous tendencies, the fairies were beloved by the townspeople, who would often leave out offerings of honey and wine for them to enjoy. In fact, it was believed that the fairies were responsible for the bountiful harvests and good luck that the village enjoyed year after year.
But as time passed and the castle fell into disrepair, the fairies disappeared, leaving behind only empty wine bottles and a few wilted flowers. Today, the castle stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Milanese people, who have weathered everything from invasions to earthquakes (although, to be fair, the fairies might have had a hand in some of those disasters).
So if you find yourself in Milan, be sure to visit the Castle of Cassino, but remember to keep a close eye on your shoes and keys, lest the mischievous fairies strike again.
