Furniture: The Battle for Your Living Room

Furniture, also known as “grown-up Legos,” is the art of creatively using wood, metal, and other materials to create pieces of junk we throw money at. It has been said that furniture is the most important aspect of any dwelling, as it’s the only thing between your naked body and the cold, unforgiving floor.

The origins of furniture date back to the caveman era when humans used rocks and tree stumps as seating arrangements. Fast forward to more modern times, and we are still sitting on strange and uncomfortable things.

From the timeless comfort of a bean bag to the spectacularly useless existence of a coat rack, furniture has evolved into many different forms. The most famous piece of furniture, the couch, has been the site of many a battle between couples. It’s a place for napping, arguing, and binge-watching shows that you’re too ashamed to admit you’re watching.

But the couch is just the tip of the furniture iceberg. We also have chairs, recliners, ottomans, footstools, and benches that have been designed to make us question our existence. There are dining tables that no one ever eats at, bookcases that are never full of books, and desks that we use to play computer games.

Despite the many arguments and disagreements furniture has caused throughout history, we continue to spend obscene amounts of money on it. We invest in furniture as if it’s the most essential thing in our lives, when in reality, a good pillow and blanket would suffice.

It’s safe to say that furniture will continue to exist for as long as we do. It will always be there, either holding us up or bringing us down. The only thing we can hope for is that someday we’ll create a piece of furniture that will finally solve all our problems. Until then, happy furniture shopping!
