Joan of Arc: The French Warrior Saint Who Showed the Voices in Her Head Who’s Boss
Joan of Arc, also known as the Maid of Orléans, was a French warrior who played a significant role in the Hundred Years’ War between England and France. But that’s not what makes her so special. What makes her truly remarkable is that she did it all while being guided by the voices in her head. Yep, you read that right.
Born in the village of Domrémy in 1412, Joan was just an ordinary girl until she started hearing voices at the age of 13. These voices, which she believed were sent by God, instructed her to lead the French army to victory and help crown the Dauphin (the heir to the French throne) as king.
Now, one might think that hearing voices in your head would be a cause for concern, but not Joan. She was like, “Sure, why not?” and decided to do what any teenage girl would do: dress up in men’s clothing, cut her hair short, and command an army.
With her unwavering faith and bold attitude, Joan led the French army to several victories against the English. She inspired her troops with her bravery and determination, even as she faced her own personal struggles. At one point, she was captured by the enemy and put on trial for heresy. But she remained steadfast in her belief that she was doing God’s work, and even managed to impress the judges with her responses to their questions.
In the end, Joan’s efforts paid off. The Dauphin was crowned King Charles VII, and Joan was hailed as a hero. Unfortunately, her successes didn’t last long. She was eventually captured by the English and burned at the stake as a heretic. But her legacy lived on, and she was later canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church.
So what can we learn from Joan of Arc? Well, for one, we should always follow our dreams, even if they seem a little crazy. And two, we should never underestimate the power of a strong woman with a fierce haircut.
Rest in peace, Joan. You may have been burned at the stake, but you’ll always be a total boss in our book.
