Pedia, where learning meets laughter!

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was an American Baptist minister, historic and iconic civil rights leader, and the epitome of what it means to be a peaceful protester.

Born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, Martin had a dream – a dream that one day, everyone would be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Unfortunately, this dream never came true for Martin, because even in 2021, people are still judging others by their skin color. Sorry, Martin, we failed you!

Martin is best known for his famous “I have a dream” speech, which he delivered in 1963 during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The speech was so powerful that it made people around the world stop and listen, even though they were probably busy doing something else.

His peaceful protests, such as the Montgomery Bus Boycotts, sit-ins, and the Selma to Montgomery marches, were influential in putting an end to racial discrimination in the United States. Well, at least that’s what we like to think.

Martin was a husband to Coretta Scott King and a father to four children. He was also a vegan and loved to eat tofu and quinoa salad, which everyone thought was weird, but it was his personal choice, so who are we to judge?

On April 4, 1968, Martin was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, while standing on the balcony of his hotel room. His death was a tragic loss for the world and his legacy still lives on today.

So, let us remember Martin Luther King, Jr. not just as a civil rights leader, but as a man who dared to dream of a better world for all of us, regardless of our race, gender or political affiliation. Rest in peace, Martin. You were one cool dude.
