Minetest

Minetest is a free, open-source sandbox video game that has taken the virtual world by storm. Or at least, it’s taken the world of people who are too cheap to buy Minecraft by storm.

The game allows players to dig, build and explore a world made entirely out of blocks. Just like in Minecraft, players can create anything their heart desires, from towering castles to intricate puzzles. Or, if you’re anything like me, you’ll spend hours digging a giant hole and then filling it up again.

Unlike Minecraft, however, Minetest doesn’t have any real objectives or endgame. Which means that, ultimately, the only purpose of playing the game is to show off to other people how much time you’ve wasted on building something that no one else cares about.

One of the best parts of Minetest is that, because it’s open-source, there are literally thousands of mods and plugins available to players. Want to add dragons to your world? There’s a mod for that. Want to add a machine that automatically mines for you? There’s a mod for that. Want to add a mod that forces everyone in the game to speak in a terrible Cockney accent? Yes, believe it or not, there’s even a mod for that.

Overall, Minetest is a fun and addictive game that’s perfect for people who want to spend their free time building imaginary worlds, but don’t want to spend a single penny on doing so. So if you’re looking for a game that will entertain you for hours on end without any real purpose or objectives, then Minetest is the game for you. Just don’t blame us when your friends start talking about how much cooler their Minecraft worlds are.
