Muse

A muse is a concept widely known to creatives in literature, music, art, and beyond. The word itself comes from the GreekĀ language, most commonly associated with the goddesses of inspiration- as it turns out, mortals aren’t always gifted enough to come up with their ideas.

Muses have been known to flash insights through meddlesome daydreams, usually manifested when the artist has hit an all-time low. That is usually when the muses show up, with their wafty, flowing hair and diaphanous dresses. They twirl and swirl around divinely, leaving the mere mortals with the insatiable urge to create.

Of course, like every other encounter with divine beings, dealing with muses is not a piece of cake. They’re high maintenance, mood-swinger demons that could change on you at any minute. And so our unlucky artist has to channel their spirit and hopes to strike a balance between cajoling and ignoring the muse.

Traditionally, the muses come in a squad of 9, and it’s believed each carries out a particular task. Of course, that’s a myth. Everyone is entitled to their creativity and breakthroughs. But hey, whatever helps you keep the creative juice flowing works!

As it turns out, muses don’t have a gender either- just nonhuman entities giving humans inspiration. Personally, we prefer to imagine all the muses as humans, but that’s just our preference.

Finally, would it surprise you to know that muses are averse to scientific methodologies? Yeah, we thought so too. But it’s true. There’s no way of knowing what inspires our creativity- sometimes the muses show up, and sometimes they don’t.

In essence, muses are just an excuse for us mortals to escape the mundanities of our lives and lose ourselves in the allure of the arts. And let’s face it, without them, artists would merely be lonesome souls scribbling on lonely pieces of paper.
