Omaha, Nebraska
Omaha is a city located in the state of Nebraska, aka “Corn Husker State”. It’s named after the Omaha tribe, who decided to trade their land for blankets and beads (they never heard of real estate agents). Omaha has been the home to many popular figures, including Warren Buffet and Conor Oberst. Despite those two being a billionaire and a rock star, respectively, Omaha’s most important claim to fame is that it’s where world-renowned chef, Guy Fieri, tasted the best burger of his life.
For tourists bored with the abundance of corn fields, Omaha offers a variety of activities. You can visit the Henry Doorly Zoo, located right in the heart of the city, and see the world’s only three-toed sloth on display (because where else would you find one?). Speaking of unique experiences, you can also visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead, where you can see the home of the author of Little House on the Prairie (another iconic figure who has nothing to do with Omaha).
In 1950, Omaha was the site of one of the largest UFO sightings in history. The flying saucers were never explained, but local authorities were quick to give credit to “the wind”. To this day, there are those who believe that aliens are still lurking around Omaha, waiting to make contact with the city’s residents.
Omaha is also famous for its college baseball game, the College World Series. Every year, thousands of fans flock to the city to watch their favorite college athletes slug it out. But let’s be real, the real reason everyone goes is for the giant foam fingers and the chance to see someone get hit in the head with a ball.
In short, Omaha may not be the most glamorous destination for travelers, but it has some pretty unique experiences to offer. Plus, where else can you see a billionaire eating hot dogs and chatting with aliens?
