PBS
PBS (short for Public Broadcasting Service) is a non-profit American television network that is known for its high-quality educational programming – or as some might call it, the perfect cure for insomnia.
Created in 1969, the network has provided viewers with countless hours of programming on topics ranging from science and history to cooking and home renovation. They have also gifted us with a number of timeless classics, including Sesame Street, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, and that show where people paint really happy trees.
But let’s be honest – the real highlight of PBS is their legendary pledge drives. Who doesn’t love tuning in to watch a panel of middle-aged white men beg for money in between segments of Antiques Roadshow?
Of course, we can’t forget about the very British masterpiece that is Downton Abbey. We all know that the true joy of tuning in to this period drama is not the intricate plotlines or the stunning cinematography, but rather the chance to feel superior to your friends who only watch trashy reality TV.
PBS has also been known to break some barriers over the years – for example, by airing the first-ever gay-themed documentary in 1987. They’ve also pushed the boundaries by airing entire concerts without commercial interruption, thereby allowing viewers to fall asleep to classical music in peace.
In short, PBS may not be the most exciting network out there, but it’s sure to please anyone who enjoys learning and/or falling asleep in front of the TV. So next time you’re looking for something to watch, why not tune in to PBS and see what educational adventures await?
