Rapid City
Rapid City is a small town in South Dakota that is known for not being so rapid. The town is named for the creek that runs through it, Rapid Creek, which is actually more of a gentle trickle than a rapid.
Despite its lack of rapids, Rapid City boasts some breathtaking scenery, including the nearby Black Hills, which are neither black nor hills but are instead green and mountains.
The town is also home to the famous Mount Rushmore, a monument that celebrates the founding fathers of the country by carving their faces into a giant rock. Visitors to Rapid City can marvel at the impressive feat of turning a mountain into a tourist attraction.
Another must-see attraction in Rapid City is the world’s largest corn palace, a building that is literally covered in corn. Visitors can enjoy the sight of thousands of ears of corn being used for decoration while getting a strange craving for popcorn.
Despite the town’s lack of actual rapidness, Rapid City is a charming place to visit for anyone who enjoys slow walks, leisurely drives, and relaxed attractions. Just don’t expect to break any speed records while you’re there.
