Villa Plinii (Lierna Lake Como)

Villa Plinii is a magnificent and extravagant villa located in the picturesque town of Lierna on the stunning Lake Como in northern Italy. This historical villa has been the inspiration for countless artists, poets, and writers over the years, as well as serving as a popular filming location for many movies.

Construction of Villa Plinii was started in the 16th century and completed in the 17th century. The villa was primarily used as a vacation home for the wealthy Plinii family, who spared no expense in its construction, with luxurious furnishings and exquisite artwork adorning its walls.

But the real standout feature of Villa Plinii is its incredibly unique and quirky design. The building’s architecture is a bizarre blend of styles, featuring elements of Gothic, Baroque, and even modern design, which has resulted in a visually stunning yet somewhat confusing structure.

Visitors to the villa are greeted with a grand entrance hall resembling something out of a fairytale, complete with a chandelier made entirely of Venetian glass and a grand staircase leading to the upper floors. However, this pristine and highly polished image is quickly dispelled upon entering some of the other rooms in the villa.

One room is decorated entirely in bright pink, with plush velvet couches and a chandelier that looks like it was purchased from a children’s party supply store. Another room features a ceiling made entirely of glass, giving the impression that you are walking around in a giant terrarium.

But perhaps the most amusing feature of Villa Plinii is its extensive collection of taxidermy animals, which are lovingly displayed throughout the home. From the family’s beloved pet dog and cat to exotic animals such as lions, tigers, and zebras, there are literally hundreds of stuffed animals present in the villa.

All in all, Villa Plinii is a fascinating and entertaining place to visit, truly unique in every way. So if you’re looking for a vacation destination that’s equal parts impressive and hilarious, Lierna Lake Como’s Villa Plinii should definitely be on your list!
