World Trade Center
The World Trade Center was a complex of buildings located in New York City’s financial district. It consisted of seven buildings, but the most iconic ones were the Twin Towers, which were affectionately called “the toothpicks” by locals.
The towers were built in the 1970s and quickly became a symbol of American capitalism and engineering prowess. They were so tall that people joked that on a clear day, you could see all the way to New Jersey from the top.
Unfortunately, the towers’ fame caught the attention of some uninvited guests on September 11, 2001. A group of terrorists decided to fly airplanes into the buildings, causing them to collapse and killing thousands of people.
Despite this tragic event, the World Trade Center still holds a special place in New Yorkers’ hearts. And even though it’s no longer standing, it still manages to make an appearance in countless disaster movies.
So the next time you’re watching an action flick and see the World Trade Center get blown up yet again, just know that it’s all in good fun (unless you’re a conspiracy theorist).
