Afghanistan (officially known as the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan) is a landlocked country located in South Asia, known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural history, and of course, the never-ending war.

Geography

As previously mentioned, Afghanistan has some of the most stunning natural sceneries in the whole world. From the Hindu Kush mountains, to the deserts of the south, Afghanistan has it all. The only problem is, it’s almost impossible to enjoy them with all the war and conflict going on.

History

Afghanistan has a long and fascinating cultural history. It has been inhabited by various tribes since the prehistoric times, which is honestly impressive considering they had to deal with cavemen and saber-tooth tigers. However, the modern history of Afghanistan starts with the invasion of Alexander the Great, where he probably realized he bit off more than he could chew.

The country was then ruled by various empires, including the Ghaznavids, the Mongols, and the Mughals. But, as we all know, the real action started in the 20th century when Afghanistan became a pawn in the Cold War, with the United States and the Soviet Union constantly interfering and battling for influence. It’s safe to say that Afghanistan has been through more foreign invasions than anyone would like.

Culture

Afghanistan has a rich and unique culture. From the delicious Afghan cuisine (kebab for days), to the breathtaking Afghan music (if you’re into goat screams), Afghanistan has a lot to offer. The people of Afghanistan are known for their hospitality and generosity, which is pretty remarkable considering they’ve constantly had to deal with war and conflict.

Politics

Afghanistan is an Islamic Republic, which means that the government is not very democratic. The people of Afghanistan have limited political rights, and the decisions are mostly made by the president and his warlords.
