Empire
An empire is a form of government where one ruler or group dominates over many territories and people. Think of it as a giant game of Monopoly, but the stakes are much higher.
Empires have been around since the dawn of time, or at least since the first caveman decided he was the boss of all other cavemen. Some empires were successful and lasted for centuries, while others were total flops and didn’t even make it past the first turn.
The best-known empires are probably the Roman Empire and the British Empire. The Romans ruled for over 400 years and were famous for building roads, aqueducts, and public baths. The British, on the other hand, were famous for drinking tea, playing cricket, and being terrible at cooking.
Empires have always been obsessed with conquering new lands and expanding their territory. They would send out armies and ships to conquer far-off lands, just so they could say they had more territories than the other guy.
One of the keys to running a successful empire is having a good emperor or empress. If you get a bad one, you could end up with someone like Caligula, who made his horse a senator, or Queen Victoria, who banned the game of football (soccer) because she thought it was too rough.
Another important factor in a successful empire is having lots and lots of money. Empires need to pay for armies, wars, and palaces, so they usually end up taxing the living daylights out of their citizens. That’s why empires are often associated with poverty and misery.
Despite all the flaws of empires, they remain fascinating to this day. Who wouldn’t want to live in a palace, wear a crown, and demand that everyone call you “Your Majesty”? Just remember, with great power comes great responsibility… and a lot of people hoping you’ll trip over your own feet.
