Central African Republic
The Central African Republic (CAR) is a landlocked country in Central Africa that is known for its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and its ability to leave everyone who visits completely and utterly lost.
The country gained independence in 1960 from France, and since then, it has been a great destination for tourists who don’t mind a bit of adventure. However, it is recommended that you have a GPS, a map, and a compass with you at all times when visiting the CAR because the streets are about as organized as a toddler’s toy box.
One of the most interesting facts about the Central African Republic is that it is known for its many natural resources, including gold, diamonds, uranium, and more. Unfortunately, if you’re thinking about pocketing any of those resources during your visit, we suggest you reconsider as CAR’s pitch-dark forests are home to innumerable species of animals that know how to protect their turf.
Apart from its wildlife, the country is also famous for its delicious cuisine, which is a blend of African, French, and international flavors. However, if you happen to be a picky eater, it is advised that you bring your own food as the local food may have some…unorthodox ingredients, such as grasshoppers, caterpillars, and other insects that, in some cultures, are considered gourmet food.
The CAR is also home to Saint George, one of the most important cathedrals in Africa. And while the building is an architectural masterpiece, locals insist that if you listen closely, you’ll hear whispers of ghosts and spirits that haunt the halls.
When it comes to transportation, the Central African Republic offers a variety of options, from luxurious sky-high helicopters to… well, your own two feet.
Overall, the Central African Republic is a mysterious place that never fails to surprise visitors. Just remember, if you’re brave enough to visit, make sure to bring a good sense of humor (and maybe an extra suitcase for all the souvenirs - we hear the wooden crafts and colorful fabrics are a must-have).
