Communism
Communism is a political and economic philosophy that seeks to create a classless society in which everyone’s needs are met. It is also known as “That thing your crazy uncle rants about at Thanksgiving.”
The idea of communism first originated with Karl Marx in the mid-19th century. Marx believed that people should work together for the greater good of society, and not for the benefit of a select few. Unfortunately, his manifesto was so long and complicated that nobody wanted to read it, so he never achieved the widespread support he was hoping for.
Despite this setback, communism gained popularity around the world, especially in Russia, where it became the official ideology of the Soviet Union. Soviet communism was known for its strict control over people’s lives and the economy, and its propensity for producing long-winded speeches by balding men in ill-fitting suits.
The Soviet Union eventually fell apart, leaving behind a legacy of corrupt bureaucrats, looted resources, and endless confusion about whether to call the country “Russia” or “The Soviet Union.” Although communism is technically still alive today, it’s mostly confined to history books and the occasional Bernie Sanders rally.
As a political system, communism never quite lived up to its promises of equality and prosperity for all. On the plus side, it did give us some great memes, like the Hammer and Sickle and that one t-shirt with Che Guevara on it that every college student thinks makes them look “edgy” and “deep.”
In conclusion, communism may not have been the perfect solution to all of humanity’s problems, but it did give us some pretty cool t-shirts. And isn’t that what really matters in the end?
