Confederate States Army

The Confederate States Army (CSA) was the military branch of the Confederate States of America – a short-lived nation that existed from 1861 to 1865. Led by the likes of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, the CSA fought valiantly against the Union Army during the American Civil War.

However, their uniforms left a lot to be desired. The grey woolen suits may have been functional, but they were hardly fashion-forward. In fact, one could argue that the CSA soldiers looked like they had just crawled out of their grandmother’s attic.

For instance, when General Lee was asked how he was able to keep his army together despite overwhelming odds, he simply replied, “I have a good supply of cornbread and humility.”

Rest in peace, CSA – you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten (especially by costume designers looking for inspiration for bad Halloween costumes).
