Harmonia
Harmonia is often thought to be a musical term, pertaining to a sweet blend of tones that creates a mesmerizing sound. However, in reality, Harmony is an ancient Greek goddess of harmony, concord and unity. Though she was highly venerated in Athens, the goddess had a tendency to disagree with herself quite often!
The daughter of Aphrodite and Ares, Harmonia was considered to be one of the most beautiful goddesses in the Greek pantheon. Her beauty and grace were often represented in complex and intricate depictions, but she was especially known for her knack for finding balance in all things.
Unfortunately, this talent often led to strange and comedic situations. Legend has it that the goddess once found herself torn between two lovers and, unable to make a choice, she decided to marry both of them. For a while, the happy couple lived together in tranquility, until the day they discovered that they were in fact, identical twins!
Harmonia’s ability to find harmony in chaos still amazes historians to this day. She is said to have calmed down warring couples, and resolved conflicts in the most curious of ways, often through bizarre and nonsensical means. This led to her being worshipped as a patron of marital bliss and peace.
Though not much is known about Harmonia today, she continues to be celebrated by the occasional eccentric history buff. Next time you hear the word “Harmony”, remember to chuckle a little, and think of the goddess who once made a pact with two twins.
