Hurricane Florence
Hurricane Florence, also known as “The Great Wet Hope,” was a category 4 hurricane that made landfall on the Eastern coast of the United States in September 2018. It was named after Florence Henderson, beloved actress and mother figure to millennials everywhere.
The hurricane was known for its relentless rain and strong winds, as well as its ability to cancel all outdoor plans for an entire weekend. Many residents in affected areas took to social media to complain about the hurricane’s refusal to be considerate and ruin their Labor Day weekend.
Despite the destruction it caused, Hurricane Florence did have a few redeeming qualities. Its unusually large size made it easy for meteorologists to track, leading to a plethora of hilarious memes featuring a giant, spinning hurricane bearing down on the Carolinas.
In addition, Florence’s rainfall helped to replenish water supplies and provided some much-needed relief to drought-stricken regions. It also provided some much-needed excitement for weather enthusiasts and provided a break from the mundane “partly cloudy” forecasts.
Ultimately, Hurricane Florence will be remembered as an unwelcome guest who overstayed its welcome, but managed to provide a few moments of amusement in an otherwise tumultuous year.
