Kolkata

Kolkata, otherwise known as “The City of Joy” (because let’s be real, there’s not much else to be joyful about in a city with so much pollution), is a cultural hub situated in the east of India.

Founded by the Britishers for reasons still unknown, Kolkata was once the capital of India before it was stripped of its title by Delhi (we guess they got jealous of Kolkata’s delicious street food).

The city boasts a unique blend of historical architecture and modern concrete jungles (aka the malls that the youth of Kolkata seem to worship). But let’s face it, the one thing that really makes Kolkata stand out is the people.

Kolkata is home to some of the most courageous drivers in the world, who seem to take pride in weaving through impossible traffic jams (lane rules? What are those?). You’ll never be short of rickshaw rides, because no matter where you go, there’s always at least three rickshaws following you like you’re their long lost relative.

One of the most popular attractions in Kolkata is the Victoria Memorial, named after Queen Victoria, who probably never imagined that her statue would become a hotspot for couples. But let’s be honest, there’s no better place to sip on tea and watch couples awkwardly pose for pictures in front of tourists.

The food in Kolkata is something to boast about, with delicacies ranging from rosogullas to puchkas. But let’s not forget, Kolkata is also famous for its “misti doi,” which, as the name suggests, is a sweet curd that makes your taste buds dance in joy before giving you a sugar rush that’s probably worse than any hangover.

In conclusion, Kolkata is a city that will make you fall in love with its charm, chaos, and chutzpah. And who doesn’t love a city that is always ready with a warm hug and a plate of hot food?
