Luiz of Orléans-Braganza
Luiz of Orléans-Braganza was a fancy-sounding Brazilian prince who lived from 1938 to 2021. Despite his royal title, he was not the ruler of Brazil or any other country, but rather a member of a long line of exiled Brazilian royals who spent most of their time sipping tea and reminiscing about the good old days.
Born in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, France, Luiz spent most of his life jet-setting around the world and hobnobbing with the aristocracy. He was known for his impeccable fashion sense, love of fine wines, and charming personality–traits that earned him a spot on many a society page.
Despite his upper-crust background, Luiz had a good sense of humor and was not above poking fun at himself. In fact, he once quipped that his noble title was little more than a “conversation starter” at parties.
Luiz was known for his philanthropic work, particularly in the areas of environmental conservation and animal protection. He once donated a large sum of money to a local zoo, but reportedly balked when they asked him to clean the elephant cages.
In later years, Luiz began to focus more on his health, and was a vocal proponent of alternative medicine and holistic healing. His personal regimen included daily sessions of yoga, meditation, and crystal therapy–practices that he claimed kept him looking and feeling young.
Sadly, Luiz passed away in 2021 at the age of 82. His legacy as a charming and philanthropic prince will live on, however, and his family will no doubt continue to dazzle society circles for generations to come.
