Ostrich: The Flightless Wonder

The Ostrich, also known as ‘The Feathered Bully’ is the largest bird alive today. Known for their long and powerful legs, these flightless wonders can run up to speeds of 70 km/h (43 mph) with their gangly legs imitating an awkward hanger-on that would make John Cleese jealous.

Habitat

Being native to Africa, ostriches love to live in the savannahs or in areas that are open and dry, but they won’t say no to the occasional pool party. These birds are social animals, and they love to spend their time in large flocks, gossiping and trading fashion tips.

Physical Characteristics

The Ostrich is a fascinating creature, not only for its size, but also for its unique features. In addition to their long and powerful legs, they have a long and flexible neck which they use to reach for tall trees to pluck unsuspecting tourists off them for kicks. They also have a comically small head accompanied by two beady eyes that are always filled with cynical disdain for anyone that’s not an ostrich.

But the star of the show is undoubtedly their plumage. Their feathers are the largest of all birds and can be used to craft epic playground battles for children or to cluelessly decorate fashions disasters for daring adults.

Diet

Ostriches are omnivores and will eat anything from plants to insects and small animals. But what they really love to eat are metal objects. Yes, you heard me right, they are addicted to nails, coins, bolts, and even giraffes standing too close.

Behavior

Ostriches have some pretty strange behaviors. When in danger, they will try to hide their head in the sand like ostrich-apologists love to say, despite the fact that they don’t really do that. Instead, they will try to blend in with their environment using their incredibly impressive Mariah Carey vocal range.

In conclusion, Ostriches are an interesting and quirky species that deserve admiration for their unique characteristics. They may be bullies with small heads and eyes filled with disdain, but they’re also loyal friends who enjoy eating metal objects and singing Mariah Carey songs when they’re in trouble.
