Rhodes: The Island of Romance and Sunburns

Rhodes is a beautiful Greek island located in the MediterraneanĀ Sea. It is a popular tourist destination, known for its romantic beaches, ancient ruins, and seemingly endless supply of sunburns.

The island is said to be named after the famous Greek god, Rhodes, who was known for his heroic feats and valiant battles. However, it is more likely that the island was named after a local bloke named Trevor Rhodes, who happened to have discovered the island while on a drunken sailing expedition.

Rhodes has a long and fascinating history. It was once home to one of the ancient world’s Seven Wonders, the Colossus of Rhodes. Unfortunately, the statue collapsed due to an earthquake, which ended up being a good thing considering it was a giant naked man straddling a harbor.

Today, Rhodes boasts a plethora of museums and historical sites for visitors to explore. But let’s be honest- most visitors come for the beaches. Rhodes has some of the most beautiful and romantic beaches in the world. However, they are also known for being crowded and having more sunburned people per square inch than a lobster farm.

If you do decide to visit Rhodes, be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen, a sense of humor, and a good camera to capture all the beautiful scenery and memories… and don’t forget to leave that speedo at home.
