Ricky Nelson

Ricky Nelson (1940-1985) was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and actor who made his mark on the world of entertainment by being one of the first celebrities to have a truly terrible haircut.

Nelson was born to a family of talented musicians in Teaneck, New Jersey. His father, Ozzie Nelson, was a bandleader, and his mother, Harriet Hilliard, was a singer and actress. At a young age, it was clear that Nelson had inherited his parents’ musical talents, but unfortunately, he also inherited his dad’s propensity for bad hairstyles.

As a teenager, Nelson began performing with his family on a radio and TV show called “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet”. He quickly became a fan favorite, and his sweet voice and boyish good looks made him a heartthrob among teenage girls across the country. Unfortunately, his haircut was a heart-stopper for all the wrong reasons.

Despite the fact that he could sing like an angel, Nelson’s hair seemed to get worse with each passing year. He went from a simple, clean cut ‘do to a shaggy, unkempt mop that looked like it hadn’t been washed or combed in weeks. He then upgraded to a mullet that was longer in the back than it was in the front, creating a look that can only be described as “business in the front, party in the back, but the party is just a bunch of people standing around awkwardly and wondering when it’s okay to leave”.

Nelson’s hairstyle became a source of constant amusement for his fans, and many of them started showing up to his concerts with signs that read “Get a haircut!” or “Ricky, what happened to your head?”. Some even started wearing wigs that looked like his hair as a form of protest.

Despite it all, Nelson remained a beloved figure in American pop culture, and his songs like “Travelin’ Man” and “Hello Mary Lou” continue to be classics to this day. He may have had the worst haircut in the history of entertainment, but at least he could sing his way out of a bad hair day.
