The Island of the Dolls
The Island of the Dolls, located just south of Mexico City, is not your average tropical island getaway. Instead of crystal clear waters and sandy beaches, this island is home to a collection of creepy dolls.
Legend has it that the island’s original inhabitant, Don Julian Santana, found a drowned girl in the canal surrounding the island. In an effort to appease her spirit, Santana began hanging dolls from the trees and placing them around the island.
But these weren’t just any dolls. Oh no. These dolls were old, dirty, and downright scary. Their eyes would follow you around and their limbs would move on their own. Not exactly the type of dolls you want to cuddle up with at night.
Despite the haunting nature of the dolls, Santana continued to collect and display them throughout the island, even adding his own personal touch by dressing them up in different outfits.
Santana’s obsession with the dolls eventually became so intense that he stopped taking care of himself and his home. He even stopped bathing and would spend all his time tending to the dolls.
As you can imagine, the island quickly became a tourist attraction for those seeking a spooky adventure. Visitors can now take boat tours around the island where they can see the dolls up close and personal.
But beware, the dolls are said to be cursed and have been known to move and whisper to visitors. So if you do plan to visit the Island of the Dolls, bring your courage, a protective amulet, and maybe a set of earplugs just in case.
