Pedia, where learning meets laughter!

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh, also known as UP, is a state located in the northern part of India. It is famous for its vast history and cultural diversity, but also for its unique quirks.

Geography

UP can be divided into three main regions - the western (known for their love for dairy products), central (known for their beautiful cities and monuments) and eastern (known for their chaat and biryani). The state also has a long coastline, but sadly, the only waves you’ll find there are created by the swarms of mosquitoes.

History

UP has been witness to many historical events, including being the birthplace of Lord Rama, and the place where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment. Unfortunately, it is also famous for being the birthplace of the Indian film director, Ram Gopal Varma.

Culture

UP is home to various cultures and religions, but the one thing that unites everyone is their love for chaat. Chaat is a type of street food that is both delicious and a test of your digestive system. Just a warning - if you’re not used to the spices, your taste buds might need a day or two to recover.

People

People of UP are famously known for their hospitality, but also for their obsession with weddings. A typical UP wedding includes a five-course meal, a band-baaja and a groom who looks like he’s on the verge of passing out from exhaustion.

Famous Personalities

UP is home to many famous personalities, including the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, and the musician, Zakir Hussain. But it’s also given birth to some questionable personalities like the self-proclaimed spiritual leader, Baba Ramdev, and the politician, Azam Khan, who once said, “I will strip the police officer’s uniform if I find him molesting anyone.”

So there you have it, a humorous guide to Uttar Pradesh. Whether you’re a lover of biryani or chaat, UP is a state that promises to leave an impression on your palate and your memories.
