1D
1D (short for “One Dimension”) is a term used in mathematics to describe a world that is so boring and unimaginative, it only exists on a single line.
In this universe, there are no three-dimensional shapes, no spherical objects, no round pizza pies, and no cuddly stuffed animals to give as gifts to your significant other. All you’ll find are straight lines that stretch into infinity, and geometric figures that are as flat and lifeless as a leaf of paper.
Some mathematicians also believed that if the 1-D universe were a book, it would be the most boring read of all time, with only one sentence repeated over and over again: “This line is straight.”
Fortunately, this bleak scenario only exists in theoretical math textbooks and philosophy class discussions, where people have no better things to do than to ask silly questions like “What would happen if we lived in a one-dimensional world?”
In the real world, we have more exciting things to think about, like puppies, chocolate, and space travel. But just in case you ever find yourself trapped in a 1-D universe, remember this: try not to spend too much time looking for a corner, because it doesn’t exist.
