Antelope: The Graceful Yet Skittish Creatures
Antelope, also known as the deer of Africa, are part of the Bovidae family, and they are known for their iconic horns, swift legs, and skittish behavior. They often come in groups known as ‘coalitions’ or ‘herds’ which, in typical human terms, would be more like a high school clique or a bachelor party.
Despite their timid nature, antelope can certainly put up a good fight, and they do not hesitate to use their horns to defend themselves. This is why it is never wise to mess with them, especially when they are in a bad mood, which is most of the time if we are being honest.
Antelopes come in various shapes, sizes, and colors, ranging from the small and agile dik-dik that could pass as a Chihuahua to the towering giraffe, which is just a tall antelope who has learned to stretch really well.
These creatures can usually be found grazing in the grasslands of Africa, which means that they are always on the lookout for predators, such as lions, hyenas, and opportunistic house cats. This is why they are always so skittish and jumpy, even when there isn’t any real danger nearby.
While antelope may be the subject of many nature documentaries, it is a well-known fact that their real talent lies in their ability to photobomb unsuspecting tourists trying to capture the perfect shot. Nothing ruins a safari picture like a random antelope who decides to pose right in front of the camera.
Overall, antelope may be timid creatures, but they have certainly established themselves as some of the funniest and most photogenic animals in the African savannah. So, if you ever find yourself on a safari or near an antelope, just remember to keep a safe distance and enjoy their comedic presence from afar… unless you have the reflexes of a cat and don’t mind dodging sharp horns.
