Jersey

Jersey is a small island located in the English Channel, blessed with picturesque villages and stunning landscapes. Much like its American counterpart, the locals here also swear by their “Jersey pride.” However, that’s where the similarities seem to end.

While New Jersey is popular for their turnpikes and pork rolls, Jersey is renowned for its classic red phone booths and cows. That’s right - cows. With more than 140 kilometers of roads crisscrossing the island, you’ll find more cows than people in Jersey. They’re a bit like their very own unique traffic jam, just much slower.

Jersey has managed to hold on to its charming British identity with a hint of French influence ever since the Normans invaded in 1066. A visit to the island’s capital St Helier won’t disappoint, as it takes you back to the era of knights and warlords. The streets are dotted with quaint shops selling all sorts of things, from artisan cheese to memories that’ll never come back.

One of the most notable attractions in Jersey is the Jersey Zoo, founded by famous conservationist Gerard Durrell. It houses some of the world’s rarest and endangered animals, with an emphasis on preserving and protecting some of the world’s most unique bear species.

Jersey is also famous for its potatoes, surprisingly! The island produces roughly ten-thousand tons of potatoes each year, which are sold across the UK and beyond. They may not be as popular as the Jersey Shore or Bruce Springsteen, but who knows – they may prove to be a big hit someday.

So there you have it – the little slice of British paradise that is Jersey. It’s a small island with big personality that may lack the glamor of Vegas or California beaches, but will make up for it with unmatched charm, quirkiness, and a heartfelt welcome that will make you feel right at home.
