Pedia, where learning meets laughter!

Kevin Sorbo

Kevin Sorbo (born September 24, 1958) is an American actor with a face that’s as chiseled as the Greek statues he portrayed in the 90s TV hit series, Hercules. He’s also known for starring in Andromeda, as well as making appearances in movies such as Kull the Conqueror, Meet the Spartans, and Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!

Early Life and Career

Sorbo was born in Mound, Minnesota, which is clearly not the most exciting place in the world judging by the guy’s acting choices. He attended Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he became interested in acting.

After college, Sorbo moved to Dallas and worked as a model and fought with Chuck Norris in a karate match. He also got his first acting roles during this time. His breakout role came when he donned a wig, a dress, and a sword to play a cross-dressing ogre in Hercules and the Amazon Women. From there, he’d wrack up more than a dozen characters before hitting it big as the actual Hercules in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys in 1995.

Hercules and Other Roles

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys smashed ratings and quickly turned Sorbo into a go-to action hero in Hollywood. After the successful several seasons of the show, Sorbo was approached to appear on a show in South Africa. However, he declined the offer and was replaced with a dude named Ryan Gosling. This turned out to be a wise choice though, as Sorbo finally landed his own show, Andromeda in 2000.

Sorbo has also appeared in a wide variety of movie roles, from playing an evil king in Kull the Conqueror to punching a giant shark in Sharknado 3. And let’s not forget his turn as the not-so-brave Leonidas in Meet the Spartans, a role that earned him rave reviews like “Kevin Sorbo is definitely in this movie.”

Personal Life

Sorbo is married to actress Sam Jenkins, with whom he has three children. He is also a devout Christian and conservative activist. But don’t worry, he still knows how to have a good time. If you ever meet him, be sure to ask him about the time he went to a Halloween party dressed as a Roman centurion and how he hit it off with a girl dressed as Alexander the Great. Trust us, it’s a story for the ages.

Legacy

Today, Kevin Sorbo remains an icon in the world of geek-themed TV shows and movies. Although his acting abilities may be, shall we say, questionable, his chiseled jawline and abs of steel will forever live on in our hearts—and on countless posters hanging on the walls of teenage boys’ bedrooms.
