Joseph Biden

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., fondly known as “Joe” or “Mr. President”, is an American politician who served as the 47th Vice President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. Born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he is widely regarded as one of the most affable and humorous politicians in modern history.

Early life and career

Biden had an interesting childhood, as he was often teased for his stuttering while growing up in Scranton. But, like a true champ, Joe never let his stutter hold him back, and even became a lifeguard during his teen years. His love of lifeguarding was so intense that he claims, “I used to sit in the stands and watch the hair on my legs bleach in the sun.”

After earning a law degree from Syracuse University in 1968, Biden decided to foray into the world of politics. He was elected to the United States Senate from Delaware in 1972 and quickly established himself as a rising star in Washington. Known for his infectious personality and quick wit, Biden was a hit among his fellow Senators, and even struck up a friendship with his future running mate, Barack Obama.

Presidency

After spending 8 years as Obama’s Vice President, Biden decided to run for President himself in 2020. His campaign slogan, “Make America Feel Good Again”, was a testament to his belief that the nation could still have a good time, even in the midst of political chaos.

During the campaigns, Biden’s humor and easy-going nature helped him connect with voters in a unique way. At one point, he even joked about being a “bridge” between the old and new generation of Democrats - “I have one foot in the 60s and one in the new millennium. And, by the way, in case you haven’t noticed, they’re the same exact shoe size!”

Biden’s tenure as President has been characterized by his laid-back approach to governing. He’s often seen joking and laughing with White House staff, and is known for his love of ice cream and aviators.

Personal life

Joe Biden has been married since 1977 to Jill Biden, who he affectionately calls “Jilly”. Together, they have a daughter named Ashley.

Biden is also known for his love of animals. In fact, he adopted a German Shepherd named Major in 2018, making him the first Presidential pet to be adopted from an animal shelter.

Legacy

While Biden will be remembered for his many accomplishments as Vice President and President, his true legacy lies in his humor and lighthearted approach to politics. He never took himself too seriously, and always tried to find the positive in every situation. And, for that reason, we can all agree that Joe Biden is truly an American treasure.
