List of Mario games

Mario games are a beloved staple of the video game world. From jumping on mushrooms to racing go-karts, Mario has done it all. Here are some of the most notable entries in the series:

Super Mario Bros. (1985)

Released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), this game introduced players to Mario and his world. It also taught an entire generation of kids to mistrust mushrooms.

Super Mario Kart (1992)

This racing game let players take control of Mario and his friends as they tore around the track in high-speed go-karts. It also introduced the concept of “rubber-banding,” which meant that whoever was in last place suddenly got a speed boost and caught up with the leaders. Thanks for nothing, Mario Kart.

Super Mario 64 (1996)

The first Mario game to be released on the Nintendo 64, this game took players into a fully-realized 3D world. It also introduced many classic elements of the series, like collecting stars and jumping into paintings. Best of all, players finally got to see Mario’s terrifying polygonal face up close.

Mario Party (1998)

This game was a revelation for anyone who wanted to lose friends and family members through the power of board games. Players took turns rolling dice and competing in mini-games in order to collect stars. As a bonus, it also introduced the concept of blisters on your palms from aggressively rotating the control stick.

Mario Tennis (2000)

Mario and his friends hit the tennis court in this game, which introduced a variety of wacky characters like the sentient virus Piranha Plant and the ghostly Boo. It also had an amazing theme song that you’ll be humming for days.

Super Mario Galaxy (2007)

This game took Mario to outer space, where he bounced around planets and battled boss monsters. It also had one of the cutest power-ups in the series - a little bee suit that let Mario fly around and pollinate flowers.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (2017)

In a crossover no one saw coming, Mario teamed up with Ubisoft’s Rabbids for a turn-based strategy game. Players controlled a squad of characters as they battled across a variety of vibrant environments, from sunny beaches to haunted castles. Also, there were weapons that shot plungers. It was weird, but in a good way.

As long as Mario keeps jumping and racing, there will always be more games to add to this list. Here’s hoping he never retires, because let’s face it, we’ll probably never retire from playing his games either.
