Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word, also known as “The Bane of Every Student’s Existence,” is a word processing software program created by Microsoft Corporation. It is widely used in offices, schools, and more importantly, homes, where it is responsible for many headaches, tantrums and not to mention, lost files.
Word was first released in 1983, which is ironic because it feels like it’s been around since the beginning of time. It quickly became the go-to software for typing up documents, printing out letters, and pretending to be a professional writer.
One of Word’s greatest strengths is its ability to auto-correct, which frequently replaces your perfectly spelled words with completely nonsensical ones. This causes much confusion, frustration and sometimes, public embarrassment.
Word also offers a vast selection of fonts, including Comic Sans, which is both fun and professional and is used exclusively by teachers for grading papers. And let’s not forget about the infamous Clippy, the annoying paperclip who would constantly pop up to ask if you needed help, when all you really wanted was some peace and quiet to finish your work.
But despite its quirks and occasional annoyances, Microsoft Word remains a staple in every student’s life. Its unparalleled ability to format essays and correctly number references has saved many a grade, even if it does mean staying up until the early hours of the morning, fighting with its formatting tools.
So, here’s to you, Microsoft Word. You may cause headaches and frustration, but you sure do help us get our work done…eventually.
