Republican Party (United States)

The Republican Party (often referred to simply as “the GOP”) is a political party in the United States that was founded in 1854. Despite the fact that the party is constantly accused of being outdated and out of touch, it continues to survive and even thrive in today’s political climate.

The party’s mascot is the elephant, a fitting choice considering how much Republicans love to trumpet their own accomplishments. And boy, do they have a lot to trumpet about! Here are just a few of their notable accomplishments over the years:

The Production of Some Extremely Memorable Candidates

In recent years, the Republican Party has produced some of the most memorable candidates that American politics has ever seen. From Donald Trump’s memorable hair to Sarah Palin’s questionable grasp of world geography, the GOP has never been short on characters. They may not always win elections, but they definitely know how to put on a show.

Tax Cuts for the Wealthy

One of the Republican Party’s defining principles is its unwavering support for tax cuts for the wealthy. After all, what could be better for the country than giving enormous tax breaks to those who are already the most financially secure? It’s a policy that has worked wonders for the economy… if you happen to be one of the lucky few who benefit from it, that is.

Denying Climate Change

While most people believe that climate change is a real and pressing threat, the Republican Party steadfastly refuses to accept this reality. Instead, they prefer to stick with the tried-and-true approach of “ignorance is bliss.” Sure, the world may be hurtling toward a catastrophic environmental disaster, but as long as the Republican Party can keep its head in the sand, everything will be just fine.

Fighting for the Right to Have AR-15s

In a country where mass shootings have become a depressingly common occurrence, the Republican Party has made it clear that its constituents’ right to own assault weapons is one of its top priorities. Because apparently, nothing says “freedom” like the ability to own a weapon of war.

Despite all of its quirks and controversies, the Republican Party remains a force to be reckoned with in American politics. Whether you love them or hate them, you can’t deny that they always manage to keep things interesting.
